The 2008 Ride of Love has been set for May 17th. Stepahnie has set a goal to have 80 cyclists and raise $120,000 for Camp Smile A Mile. For more information about the ride of love and what it is, please visit the Ride of Love website, or Camp Smile A Miles website to learn how this ride offers programs and activities for children with cancer here in Alabama. A bit of the email from stephanie:

We have had more children at Camp this summer than ever before and we have had so many newly diagnosed children and their families to join us.  It seems strange to be excited for having a lot of children to attend our camp and even more so that more children have been newly diagnosed with cancer unfortunately childhood cancer is a part of life for some children and families.  I am just happy that they have an organization like Camp Smile-A-Mile to help them during this most challenging time.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I wish I didn’t have my job—I wish there was a cure for childhood cancer but until there is a cure Camp SAM will continue to touch these families and the ROL will still ride in helping to support them!!

It was a hot one yesterday, but I didn’t do too bad. I tried to keep a slower pace and keep my average heart rate bpm down, which I accomplished:

I wanted to ride 30 miles today, 1 mile for each year, but I ran out of time, plus, it was extremly HOT! I can’t believe I’m thirty years old. It seems like yesterday I was playing T-ball and life was easy. Now fast forward to today. Now it seems like every year that passes goes just a little bit faster. As for the ride:

Not to bad of a ride today. It was a little hot, but the pace was ok. I can’t believe in 2 days I will be turning 30 years old. I guess it’s downhill from here! Ride Stats Here.

I rode a short but hilly ride today. The first major hill was a 16.5% grade and I made it with no problems. Coming back over the mountain, I made it to about a 9% grade until I had to stop. I seem to have problems when the grade gets any higher than 8%. Details from the ride are here.

A little better average today over a longer distance, but of course it’s much easier riding with a group. If you are in the McCalla Area and like to ride your bike, join us Thursdays at 6 at the Winn Dixie on Morgan Road, Exit #6 off I-459. It’s a good ride with rides for all levels of experience, and different distances as well. My ride today.

A brief and quick ride today. I tried to push myself and have a 20mph average, but I just couldnt do it. I don’t know if it’s from not riding since Saturday, or if I just need more expierence and training on the bike, but keeping the average above 20 was just too much for me today. Statistics from the ride are below:

I decided to get up this morning at 5:45am and ride out to Montevallo to join a group that rode out to the Winery in Calera and back. It was a nice ride, not to demanding and a really slow pace. I rode 40 miles, with an elevation gain of 2,017 and about a 15 mph average for the ride. The weather was nice early on, but got hotter toward noon.

A good 14 miles today, a little bit of it in the rain. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have my cycle computer, we shall see. It will depend on what time the FedEx man delivers. Who is at home at 11:55am on a workday???

I didn’t set out to ride 30 miles today, it just kind of happened. I’m not sure how long it took, but it felt like it flew by. I want to say about 2 hours which would be about 15 miles per hour. I’m ready to start picking up my averages and distance. We shall see!
